God's Holy Word

Jesus went up to the temple and started to teach. Astonished, the religious leaders asked, “He’s never been taught!
How has he mastered the Law?”
Jesus responded, “My teaching isn’t mine but comes from the one who sent me.
Whoever wants to do God’s will can tell whether my teaching is from God or whether I speak on my own.
Those who speak on their own seek glory for themselves.
Those who seek the glory of him who sent me are people of truth; there’s no falsehood in them.”
John 7:14-18
Consider this: He knew more than they did. They were the smartest in the whole region
yet the carpenter’s son from Nazareth was out teaching them. He was more popular than them too.
He had wisdom, compassion, and, from some accounts, he used a lot of humor; so he was more talented than them.
Some knew about the miracle of the bread and fish. They had heard about the wedding feast where he turned water into wine.
And then the miracles of healing – Jesus was doing everything better and to a degree never heard of before.
Yet he gave the glory; he did not take it himself. He lifted up the crowd who sought his wisdom:
“Those who seek the glory of Him-Who-Sent-Me are people of truth, there is no falsehood in them.”
Have you considered whose glory you are seeking?
Prayer: Lord Jesus, guide me away from being jealous of those who can do things better than me.
Teach me to lift up others and, when I do something well, to give the glory to You.
May the same Holy Spirit that worked through Christ dwell in me,
allowing me to speak truth and live in a way that brings glory to Your name alone. Amen.
