God's Holy Word

Thursday, March 5, 2026

Jesus said:
Does the lamp shine just to be placed under a bushel basket?
Does a lit lamp belong under a reclining couch?
Or, does a lamp exist to shine on the lampstand?
Nothing is hidden. Everything will be made clear.
Nothing has become hidden that will not come into full view.
Assuming a person has ears to hear, let them hear.
Mark 4:21-23

Consider this: I imagine the correct response is, “Of course not.” Bushel baskets and couches are flammable.
I get the feeling, however, that Jesus is not giving out home décor advice or warning us to not start a house fire.
What if he’s talking about us. Our faith. What if he’s asking if our faith is something that we hide.
Isn’t the purpose of faith – a shining light – to be placed on a metaphorical lampstand?
Doesn’t faith start first in the home, while relaxing or going to bed. Do you put your faith under a basket?

Prayer: Lord Jesus, nothing is hidden from you. I could hide my faith under a couch and you would still know it is there.
Forgive me for the times I have hidden my faith. Forgive me for placing the light You have given me under a basket of silence.
Lord, I ask for the courage to let my light shine brightly.
May my life, my words, and my actions reflect Your truth in my home, my workplace, and my community. Amen.
