God's Holy Word

Tuesday, March 10, 2026

On the last and most important day of the festival, Jesus stood up and shouted,
“All who are thirsty should come to me! All who believe in me should drink!
As the scriptures said concerning me, Rivers of living water will flow out from within him.”
[This upset the religious authorities because Jesus came from Galilee]
Nicodemus, who was one of them and had come to Jesus earlier, said,
“Our Law doesn’t judge someone without first hearing him and learning what he is doing, does it?”
They answered him, “You are not from Galilee too, are you?
Look it up and you will see that the prophet doesn’t come from Galilee.”
John 7:37-38, 50-52

Consider this: It is believed that Jesus said these words during the water pouring ceremony over the altar in the Temple.
Priests would carry jars of water and pour them out around the altar as a sign of rain to come in the next season for the crops.
There may have been a little superstition going on about the ceremony and getting rain.
All things come from God but once in a while, we get concerned that if we don’t do the right ceremony, things might turn out bad.
I own a black cat and from time to time I will go underneath a ladder. Our house was on 13th Ave. Some people never would do those things.
That’s fine. God knows we have superstitions. Belief in God through Jesus is not superstitious.
It’s a living water that we, who are thirsty, are invited to drink. Nicodemus saw Jesus for who he is. He was thirsty and found the living water.
His colleagues made fun of him, but he stayed true to what he knows to be the truth.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, grant me the wisdom of Nicodemus to seek the truth, and the courage to stand for it,
even when it is unpopular or misunderstood. Let the rivers of living water flow through me to wash away the dryness in my own life
and to bring refreshment to those around me. May I be a channel of Your grace in a divided world. Amen.
