Longboat Key is located on Florida's west coast, just minutes from Sarasota and Bradenton. The island is approximately 60 miles south of Tampa and is easily accessible by car or by air. Interstate 75 and US 41 (Tamiami Trail) are the major routes into the area. Longboat Key can be reached by bridge from either end of the island. Sarasota-Bradenton International (SRQ), Tampa, Ft. Myers and St. Petersburg airports serve the area.
Longboat Key's land area consists of 4.26 square miles, 10.8 miles in length, and width varies from .05 to 1 mile. The elevation varies from 3 to 18 feet. There are approximately 8,000 full time residents, 12,000 seasonal residents, and peak season population may reach 22,000.
